Frequently Asked Questions
Why Veterinary Housecalls?
The Brunswick Veterinary Hospital's mobile unit offers you a CONVENIENT, HIGH QUALITY, way to get excellent health care for your pets. Housecalls are more convenient and less time consuming for you. You will also receive more personalized attention and, generally, an extended period of time spent with the veterinarian.
Having us come to your home ELIMINATES transportation STRESS AND waiting room ANXIETY experienced by many pets in a trip to a veterinarian's office; they'll be happier and more comfortable. A veterinary housecall is also the ideal way to have multiple pets receive their veterinary care without having to make multiple trips to a clinic.
An examination of your pet in it's normal environment is a BETTER examination because it is less stressful. Your pet's behavior and vital signs will not be influenced by environment, and so are more likely to be accurate during examination.
Having us come to your home is less stressful for YOU. A house call minimizes disruption of your schedule, and eliminates the stresses you experience in taking your pets in your vehicle, into traffic and into an often chaotic clinical setting.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Simply request an appointment by phone (518) 279-0700 and we will find a convenient time for you and your pet. Depending on the flexibility of your schedule, appointments can usually be made within a week of calling.
What areas do you service?
The Brunswick Veterinary Hospital serves the capital district and all surrounding areas such as Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Washington counties. Some of the cities that we visit are Albany, Petersburgh, Troy, Cohoes, Colonie, Hoosick Falls, Schaghticoke, Saratoga Springs, and Clifton Park, just to name a few!
Will you come to my house for just one pet?
Absolutely! While multi-pet households find our services especially convenient, we are happy to provide veterinary services for any client – whether they have 1 pet or 10 pets!
Are your prices competitive with other vets?
Yes. There is a trip fee for each visit, but our other fees tend to be in line with industry standards. Depending on the area in which you live, the housecall fee ranges. There is only 1 housecall fee no matter how many pets you have. There is also a discounted trip fee if you schedule on a day when the veterinarian is already servicing your area.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, debit, most major credit cards, CareCredit, and CitiCard. For a detailed view of our credit policy click here.
What if my pet is having an emergency?
Most true medical emergencies require more medical and diagnostic care than one doctor in a mobile vehicle can provide. The only emergency cases that we can see with the mobile unit are the ones that the doctor feels that she has the support available to handle the case. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the mobile practice, it is impossible to provide anything but minor emergency services. The full service hospital is available for medical emergencies and transportation of your pet to the full service hospital is available if you do not have transportation available.
If your animal is experiencing a life-threatening emergency (hit by car, collapse, trouble breathing, etc.), you can contact the Brunswick Veterinary Hospital's full-service clinic at (518) 279-0700, or your nearest veterinary clinic so that your pet can receive immediate attention.
If it is after hours please call:
Upstate Veterinary Specialties and Emergency Clinic in Latham, NY at (518) 783- 3198 or
The Capital District Emergency Clinic in Latham, NY at (518) 785- 1094 or
Northway Animal Emergency Clinic in Gansevoort, NY at (518) 761-2602
If you have found a problem but are not sure how serious it is, we provide a free call-back service for existing clients with non-emergency problems that would benefit from doctor input. Sometimes advice and home care is all that is needed to either solve the problem or "tide you over" until the next day. This callback service is provided until 10 pm, as this covers most problems that fall into this category. Please leave a message and the doctor will return your call.
Do you perform euthanasia?
Euthanasia services are available, and this is a service we provide in your home or in a special location of your choosing. It is important that your pet feel safe and at home during his or her final moments with you. Please ask us about options for your pet following euthanasia.
What are your hours?
Hours are by appointment. Appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday and some weekend and evening appointments are available. An emergency fee is incurred if services are required on short notice.
