Emergency Care at BVH

Sudden emergencies with your pet are a scary experience!


We are often able to accommodate daytime emergency evaluations for sudden illnesses or trauma in pets during business hours. If you are concerned about your pet, please call us at (518) 279-0700 and we will assess your situation to determine the next steps to take.


Signs of emergencies include, but are not limited to:

  • Labored breathing or not breathing
  • Collapse
  • Pale to white gums
  • Severe, uncontrolled bleeding
  • Bloated, painful abdomen
  • Change in mental status- dull, not responding to interaction normally
  • Straining to urinate but not producing urine (especially MALE CATS)
  • Severe trauma (hit by car, etc) If your pet is experiencing any of the above symptoms or any other emergency call us

Please note that we do not offer overnight or weekend emergency care, and we do not have intensive care or boarded veterinary specialists (such as neurologists or cardiologists) at our facility. If your pet is assessed to need any of these services, our doctors and staff will counsel you on transferring to a local specialty center who can provide the care your pet needs.

Urgent Care Visits
In addition to emergency services at Brunswick Veterinary Hospital, we understand that not every medical concern is an emergency, but some conditions still require prompt attention. Our urgent care services are designed for pets experiencing non-life-threatening issues that need to be addressed the same day. These may include:

  • Minor wounds or lacerations
  • Ear infections or eye irritation
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Lameness or limping
  • Skin infections or allergic reactions
  • Abnormal urination
